In view of the COVID-19 Virus crisis, the Aruba government has issued a Ministerial Regulation to implement a daily curfew from 9 PM to 6 AM starting as of March 21st, 2020. A ‘Shelter in Place’ has also been implemented as of March 29th, 2020. The Minister-President has exercised the extraordinary power granted to her on the basis of Article 16 paragraph 1 of the Calamities Ordinance (AB 1989 no. 51) to implement certain measures to prevent imminent danger to persons and goods. The Ministerial Regulation succeeds several previous regulations issued to restrict the entry of persons into Aruba.
UPDATE April 15th, 2020:
Prime Minister:
- New Announcement: Measures are extended to April 28th, 2020 (Curfew, Shelter in Place, Gathering ban).
- First registered death related to Covid-19 was a 79 year old female patient due to complications.
- Second death was previously undiagnosed; a 39 year old male patient.
- Contact tracing is being conducted related to the second person that passed away today and tested after death.
- FASE relief program has about 10,000 registered, however, most have not submitted all required documents. Those that have complied will receive relief end of April.
- Social Affairs department is assisting with food packages.
- For business owners, the Government is discussing salary subsidy to help maintain as many people employed as possible.
